Moonshine: A Timeless Rural American Classic
One of the many annual traditions for the Summer Hoosier Rural Preceptorship (SHRP) program is pilgrimage to Moonshine, Illinois. The Moonshine Store (population 2) is located in Moonshine, IL (pop. 2) and boasts one of the best burgers in the area. Near Martinsville, the Moonshine Store is a timeless and classic version of general stores from earlier rural America. Food options include hamburger, cheeseburgers, and grilled chicken. No matter how long the line is (and it gets to be pretty long) the grill shuts off at 12:30 CST.
For years, Dr. Turner, has led SHRP students, Lugar Center Staff, and other professionals to the store to enjoy a homemade cheeseburger, chips, and a soda. Each year the students enjoy the entirety of the trip through corn fields and of course the food is always a hit.
