Holiday Time

Residents receive 6 paid holidays/year.

Salaries
As of July 1, 2010

  • PGY-1      $40,000
  • PGY-2      $46,850
  • PGY-3      $48,500

Relocation Allowance

After contracts are finalized, first-year residents receive a $7,500 relocation allowance.

Night Float

13 hour evening shifts (6PM-7AM) daily for 1-2 weeks dispersed throughout the year. First year residents are scheduled for a total of 7 weeks, second year residents are scheduled for a total of 4 weeks and third year residents are scheduled for a total of 3 weeks. During the night-float experience, the first year resident is under the supervision and in collaboration with an upper level resident and gradually increases his/her responsibility for managing the following:

  • Inpatient family medicine service
  • Inpatient pediatrics
  • ER patient from Family Medicine Center (FMC), Clay City Center for Family Medicine (CCCFM) and St. Ann Clinic
  • OB patients including out-patients and laboring patients of the CCCFM, FMC, and other associate faculty
  • Outside phone calls

Faculty

Seven full-time, board certified family physicians (Bios), full-time behavioral science coordinator, and over 100 volunteer faculty in all specialties.

Health & Dental Insurance

Benefits for residents are paid in full. Coverage for dependents requires an additional fee.

Liability Protection (Malpractice)

Insurance is paid in full. The policy covers residents for all activities undertaken as a part of the residency program, or at the request of Union Hospital. Independent moonlighting activities are not covered.

Life Insurance

Term life insurance equal to annual salary is provided to residents. Additional coverage may be purchased.

Disability Insurance

Long-term disability insurance is provided. Short-term disability insurance may be purchased.

Moonlighting

Moonlighting is not permitted during the first year of residency. Up to 50 hours per month is permitted during the second and third years.

Parking

Residents may park on campus at no charge.

Miscellaneous Benefits

403b (retirement plan for non-profit institutions); dependent care available; flexible benefits plan; dependent health, dental and life insurance policies are available for additional fees.

Uniforms

Uniforms for residents are provided.

Meals

All meals are provided while on duty.

Fitness Center

Located in Union Hospital, the award winning fitness center is available to residents and their families. A monthly membership fee is required.

Facilities

Union Hospital Family Medicine Center, Clay City Center for Family Medicine; 25 support staff members.

Technology

Laptop computers and PDA's are issued to residents; computerized medical records system in all sites; telemedicine opportunities are continually expanding.

Medical Libraries

Libraries are available at the Family Medicine Center and at Union Hospital; a staff assistant is available at the hospital library.

Social

Picnics and other gatherings are held throughout the year.
