Family Medicine Residency Program

Union Hospital’s Family Medicine Residency is an innovative, hands-on, comprehensive program. Residency faculty created a program that offers the tools and experiences necessary for success. Just like our neighbors deserve great health care, our residents deserve a high caliber program. Seven residents are selected each year, for a total of 21 residents. For more information about the Family Medicine Residency program, contact Vicki Miller at (812)478-4183.

Rural Training Track Accredited Program Curriculum

The Richard G. Lugar Center for Rural Health (formerly Midwest Center for Rural Health) supports the accredited rural track component of the Union Hospital Family Medicine Residency program. The Lugar Center’s program strategy is based on the ideal combination of factors. By recruiting residents who have rural backgrounds or experience, training them in the details of rural health practice, and then assisting them in establishing practices, sustains and improves rural health care delivery systems on a long-term basis.

The program is built on three key principles: (1) the Rural Training Track, a specially designed, hands-on curriculum for future rural health providers, (2) an understanding of how to incorporate computer and communications technology to support rural practices, and (3) a commitment to a multidisciplinary team approach to providing health care, with the team consisting of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, mental health providers, public health providers, allied health professionals and local communities.

Residency faculty developed an innovative approach to some of rural America's health care problems. If you are interested in learning more about the residency program, e-mail us at FPVSM@uhhg.org or call Vicki Miller at (812)478-4183.
